HEADING OS

Install HEADING OS

Three steps on your side. Claude Code does the rest on your own machine, and tells you what each step is for.

1. Install Claude Code

On macOS or Linux, open a terminal and run Anthropic's official installer:

curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash

On Windows, HEADING OS runs inside WSL, the Linux that ships with Windows. Open PowerShell as administrator (right-click it, then "Run as administrator"), run this line, then restart your machine:

wsl --install

After the restart, open Ubuntu from the Start menu, create your Linux user, and run the same line as on Linux:

curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash

Claude Code needs a Pro, Max, Ultra, Team or Enterprise plan, or a Console account. A Claude subscription is enough for HEADING OS; no API key is required.

2. Start it

Open a new terminal (on Windows, Ubuntu) and type claude. Sign in when it asks, then trust the folder.

3. Paste one sentence

Copy this sentence into Claude Code and press Enter:

Install HEADING OS for me: follow https://headingos.com/install

Claude installs everything under one folder, ~/HeadingOS: the engine, your private data, memory, search, the task tracker, the parallel-work tools, the model proxy, the agent dashboard, and your mail and calendar. It asks you very little. Passwords and keys go only into a hidden prompt in your terminal, never into the chat. It finishes when every check is green, and its last words are Type /setup-wizard.

The file Claude reads

This page is not the instructions. The instructions are one file in the HEADING OS engine, the install runbook, and that file is what Claude reads and follows step by step. Every install runs the same steps in the same order.

The runbook ships with the next HEADING OS release. Until then, Claude and you can follow the install guide.
